Northern Virginia Realtors: January 2014

Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William Foreclosures January 2014

On any given day 5 years ago, you could see hundreds of bank owned foreclosed homes for sale in each Northern Virginia county.

As of today those big numbers have shrunk to a total of 108 in the counties of Loudoun, Prince William and Fairfax.

Foreclosures in Northern VAWhen folks talk about buying foreclosures, bank owned homes (REO's) are generally what they are talking about.

The number of Bank Owned homes  (property that has already been foreclosed on and now offered to the public through real estate agents) has remained very steady for the past year in the  Northern Virginia metro area.

Fortunately for mortgage stressed home owners,  real estate prices have risen in the past 5 years so that many can sell their homes normally rather than face foreclosure or short sale.

For example, in November 2008, 170 bank owned homes sold in Fairfax county in the month of November. This month, there are a total of 39 bank owned homes for sale in Fairfax...a monumental change.
